IN-SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
PROGRAMS
One of Connecticut Ballet's principal missions is the education of young
people in the many aspects of dance, exposing students and teachers to the
entire gamut of traditional and contemporary dance forms. Narrated by
Artistic Director Brett Raphael, the programs have been enthusiastically
received by 250,000 youngsters and adults throughout Connecticut and
Westchester County, New York since 1981.
Under the aegis of individual school districts or PTO Councils, Connecticut Ballet performs a variety of 50-minute lecture/demonstrations for grade K-12 students. Artistic Director Brett Raphael is joined by the company ballet mistress and six professional dancers to give a close-up look at ballet, modern, jazz or ethnic repertoire.
Since 1990, the company has performed at more than 550 public, private and parochial schools. Programs we offer:

Feedback on THE WORLD OF DANCE:
"My class was completely fascinated by the different accents,
costumes, dances, music, instruments and languages you showed us. Some
chose to write letters to the dancers." --- 2nd grade teacher, Sharon
Center School, Sharon, CT

Feedback on PIONEERS OF AMERICAN DANCE:
"On behalf of the Squadron Line School community, we are writing to
thank you for your information and engaging live dance performance at our
school in late October (2010).
Your presentation of five distinctive dance styles in one performance was unique and memorable for our students and staff. The involvement of students with movement sequences engaged them in the performance and the final "montage" showcased your talent - such a well-crafted and executive performance and presentation!"

Here's what one 2nd grade teacher wrote following a recent assembly
program:
I suspect many of my 7-year-old male students will be less likely
to thumb their noses at everything associated with ballet; they were
highly impressed with the athletic ability the dancers demonstrated and
couldn't help talking about it with enthusiasm.
Here's a recent response from an educator at Columbus
Magnet School in Norwalk following our April 2009 'World of Dance'
presentation:
Your performance was quite amazing. I was impressed with the
amazing talents of your dancers as well as their ability to explain and
engage the students with their cultural lesson. Every student in our
class (and I am guessing in the school) was awed, amazed, and inspired by
your dancers. It was a stellar performance that bridged all cultural gaps
and made our entire class passionate about something."
A fourth grade boy named William, wrote the following after
seeing 'Pioneers of American Dance' in February 2010:
"When I first heard that we were having a ballet assembly, I moaned
and groaned thinking that ballet was a slow sport that only girls like to
do. You proved me wrong. Ballet is really interesting now that I have
seen you perform. I am inspired by how healthy and strong you need to be
to do dance. I thought you were great."
Alexa, a fourth grader, wrote:
"I am going to tell my dance teacher how
phenomenal it was. I especially liked the Isadora Dance one. I wish I got
it on tape so I can just keep watching it over and over again."
